Blue Zone is a term used to identify a demographic and / or geographical area of the world where people live longer than average. The concept was born when professor Gianni Pes from the University of Sassari and professor Michel Poulain from Belgium published on their experimental Gerontology their demographic study of human longevity, which identifies the province of Nuoro in Sardinia as the area with the highest concentration of centenarians in the world. The scholars traced the blue concentric circles on the map that indicated the areas with the highest longevity, hence the term “blue zone”.
According to research, the reasons for this longevity and well-being are based on alimantation with local healthy and genuine foods, regular physical activity, a social structure that puts the family at the center of life, promoting the most intense human relationships.
Ogliastra is getting more and more successful, especially because it offers beautiful and uncontaminated landscapes and the magnificent world famous beaches such as Cala Luna, Cala Mariolu, Cala Sisine and Cala Goloritzé in the territory of Baunei, declared the Italian Natural Monument. The inland areas are so wild and spectacular that make the Supramonte of Dorgali, Gorroppu Gorge, Europe’s largest canyon and heels between Gairo, Jerzu, Ulassai one of the most beautiful places in the world.

The name “Barbagia” is related to the fact that here refuged the Sardinians who resisted the conquests of Carthaginians and Romans. In fact, the area is made up of various historical regions: you will be conquered by the magic of the historic villages such as Gavoi with granite houses, narrow lanes, vine coortes and pergolas, and the homeland to the famous unique sheep cheese “Fiore Sardo” (Sardinian Flower). In Orgosolo, the streets speak to you through murals painted on walls that tell life, culture, and political claims. Barbagia is famous for “cannonau” wine: Mamoiada, Oliena and Dorgali are internationally recognized as the production centers and homeland of these grapes and wine.
